SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Novatel
Wireless, Inc. (NASDAQ: NVTL), a leading provider of intelligent
wireless networking solutions, today announced that Thrifty
Car Rental, one of the largest car rental companies in the world,
has selected Novatel Wireless' Mobile Tracking device, the MT
2500, to manage and protect its fleet of rental vehicles against
theft, damage and loss in South Africa.
As part of the Novatel
Wireless Mobile Tracking portfolio, the MT 2500 captures and
monitors driver behavior, relaying vehicle information on rapid
acceleration, harsh braking, speed violations and excessive idling. With
an optional battery for communications when power is lost, the MT 2500
offers a feature rich solution with low implementation and operational
costs.
"Thrifty needed a simple solution to provide detailed driver and vehicle
information to help mitigate vehicle damage, loss and theft," says Tyson
King, VP of Sales for M2M Integrated Solutions, Novatel Wireless.
"Novatel Wireless' Mobile Tracking solutions provide comprehensive
analytics for a host of applications that are simple to use and easy to
install."
The MT 2500 is an internal antenna device providing an update to
Thrifty's previous deployment of external antenna devices. Novatel
Wireless' internal antenna designs demonstrate equal performance as
external antennas with the added bonus of simpler and less costly
installation. The deployment will also have the capabilities to expand
beyond Thrifty's rental car fleets, providing services on new and leased
vehicles as well.
"Thrifty originally selected Novatel Wireless' solutions based on their
proven design and delivery of detailed analytics to suit our needs,"
says Lance Govender, Managing Director of Thrifty Car Rental, South
Africa. "Leveraging the information we are able to gather from our
current fleet of vehicles means we can improve driver experiences, keep
close track of inventory and pass on savings to our customers."
