Michael Newman

    Michael Newman
    Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

    Michael Newman has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since September 2014. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Newman, served in senior executive level positions at Websense, Inc. a global leader of advanced IT security solutions, over an eleven-year span from 2002 to 2013. From 2011 to 2013, he served as Chief Financial Officer, and from 2002-2011 he served in a variety of capacities, including General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer. At Websense, Mr. Newman was responsible for Accounting, Finance, Tax, Human Resources, Legal, IT, Facilities, and Sales Operations. Prior to his time with Websense, Mr. Newman handled securities and corporate development matters in the legal department for Gateway, Inc., a publicly-traded computer manufacturer. Mr. Newman holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.S. in Business Administration from Georgetown University.

    General John D. Wakelin

      General John D. Wakelin

      General John D. Wakelin (U.S. Army, Retired) has served as a director since May 2009. For the last 24 years he has worked in senior executive and business development roles at SAIC, a scientific, engineering, and technology applications company. In September 2013, a new company, Leidos, Inc., was crated and spun off from SAIC. General Wakelin transferred to Leidos, Inc., at that time. At SAIC and Leidos, Inc., General Wakelin has overseen numerous programs in large scale computing, telecommunications systems, and complex enterprise software systems for the public and private sector. He retired as Brigadier General for the Army where he served for 30 years in a number of roles, culminating in the Joint Staff as Deputy Director for Command Control and Communications for the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Presidents Reagan and Bush and as Deputy Commander for Research and Development for the U.S. Army Communications Electronics Command at Fort Monmouth, N.J. General Wakelin holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of San Francisco and he completed all graduate level course work in Social Psychology for the Army's Foreign Area Officer Program at San Diego State University. General Wakelin also attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and National War College. He is a member of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association and the Association of the United States Army.

      Sue Swenson

        Sue Swenson
        Chief Executive Officer

        Sue Swenson has served as a director since June 2012, Chairman of the Board since April 2014, and Chief Executive officer since October 2015. Ms. Swenson brings decades of leadership experience and operational expertise in the telecommunications industry and considerable experience serving on the boards of growing technology companies. She served as President and CEO of business software provider Sage North America from 2008-2011. Ms. Swenson also served as COO of digital content company, New Motion/Atrinsic, mobile virtual network operator, Amp’d Mobile, and T-Mobile USA. She was also President and COO of Leap Wireless, International (Cricket Communications) from 1999-2004 and President and CEO of Cellular One from 1994-1999. Ms. Swenson serves on the Board of Directors of Wells Fargo, Spirent Plc, Harmonic, and is Chair of FirstNet, the U.S. Department of Commerce First Responder Network Authority, appointed by U.S. Commerce Secretary, Rebecca Blank. Ms. Swenson is a graduate of San Diego State University.

        James Ledwith

          James Ledwith

          James Ledwith has served as a director since March 2008 and as independent lead director from April 2010 until April 2014. Mr. Ledwith served as a partner at Cohn Reznick, LLP, formerly J.H. Cohn, an accounting and consulting firm, from 1992 until his retirement in 2009 and has been a lecturer at San Diego State University from 2000 to 2007 and from 2011 to the present. Mr. Ledwith serves as a director of San Diego Trust Bank, a privately held community bank until its sale in June 2013. Mr. Ledwith is a certified public accountant and received his undergraduate degree from Babson College and a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania.

          David A. Werner

            David A. Werner

            David A. Werner has served as a director since January 2004. Mr. Werner has been co-owner of Aerofit, Inc., an engineered component manufacturer, since 2004. Mr. Werner was previously a partner at Engineered Components, an acquisition and business development company serving the engineered components market, which he joined in 2002. Mr. Werner also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Day Runner, Inc. from 1999 to 2002. From 1994 to 1999, Mr. Werner was Executive Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors of Kaynar Technologies, Inc., a specialty component manufacturer. From 1990 to 1993, he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Microdot, Inc. From 1978 to 1990, Mr. Werner served in various accounting, financial, operating and executive positions with Lear Siegler. From 1974 to 1978, Mr. Werner worked for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. (currently KPMG). Mr. Werner is a certified public accountant and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California.

            John Ross

              John Ross
              Mr. Ross joins the Novatel Wireless Board of Directors with 15 years experience in developing profitable businesses at some of America's largest telecommunications companies.

              Mr. Ross is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Media Connex, Inc., a San Diego based company that provides bundled services and equipment for wireless networks, network security, advanced diagnostics, and other IT services and solutions.

              Mr. Ross' extensive business and technology background includes leadership positions at major telecommunications companies, including Motorola from 1995 until 2000, at U.S. Robotics prior to its acquisition of Palm, Inc. in 1995, and at Littelfuse, Inc. At Motorola, Mr. Ross was responsible for numerous breakthrough industry initiatives including development and deployment of CDMA StarTACs, the first clamshell mobile phone, which set several technical standards for future mainstream cellular equipment and in 2005 was listed as #6 on The 50 Greatest Gadgets of the Past 50 Years in PC World. He also held leadership roles in Motorola's Japan CDMA infrastructure deployment. Mr. Ross also held several key positions at Novatel Wireless, including heading Strategic Business Development, before founding Media Connex.

              Mr. Ross holds an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of management at Northwestern University and is a magna cum laude graduate of Washington University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.

              Peter Leparulo

                Peter V. Leparulo has served as a director since May 2003 and as our Chief Executive Officer since January of 2003. Prior to January 2003, he was our Senior Vice President, General Manager, CDMA Operations since May 2001. From September 2000 to May 2001, he served as our Senior Vice President, Corporate and Strategic Development and General Counsel. From June 1998 until September 2000, Mr. Leparulo was a Senior Partner at the law firm of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, where he specialized in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, securities, intellectual property and general corporate matters. Prior to joining Orrick, Mr. Leparulo was a Partner at the law firm of Pillsbury Madison & Sutro LLP, from January 1992 until June 1998, and an Associate at that firm from October 1989 until January 1992. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Colgate University and a Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University.

                Brad Weinert

                  Brad Weinert is Vice President of Business Development, responsible for developing new business relationships and strategic business planning. Mr. Weinert brings over 24 years of sales, business development, marketing and engineering experience to his position and previously held responsibilities for the company?s product management and corporate strategy. Prior to joining Novatel Wireless, he served as COO of Okbridge and as Vice President of Product Management at iVasion/RouterWare, Inc., where he oversaw the design, development and delivery of all commercial and OEM networking products. Mr. Weinert has also held senior management positions with NetManage, Inc., Age Logic, Inc., and Pathway Systems, where his responsibilities included engineering, sales and marketing of software and hardware products for local and wide area networking.

                  Patrick O'Bright

                    Vice President of Operations and General Manager
                    Patrick O'Bright was appointed Vice President of Operations and General Manager in January 2003 where he leads Novatel Wireless? Operations Team and is responsible for managing manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain functions. Mr. O?Bright oversees the program management team, responsible for new product launches, and internal operational processes and efficiencies. Previously, he served as Director of CDMA Business and Strategic Development. Mr. O?Bright has extensive experience in the telecommunications industry with a broad background ranging from manufacturing and supply chain management to product development and launch. Prior to joining Novatel Wireless in September 2000, he was a Program Manager at Motorola, Inc., where he was responsible for market research, risk analysis, and revenue forecasting for next generation new product development programs. Prior to Motorola, Mr. O?Bright was Service Department Manufacturing Supervisor for Qualcomm Personal Electronics, Inc, where he managed a staff of 73 technical and professional employees and was instrumental in creating operational efficiency, inventory control, and increasing productivity and product yield.
